Viscosity calculator

Exactly on the milliliter

Viscosity is a measure of the resistance of a fluid to being deformed by either shear stress or extensional stress. It is commonly perceived as “thickness”, or resistance to flow. Viscosity describes a fluid’s internal resistance to flow and may be thought of as a measure of fluid friction.

You need the value for density, as well as a value for dynamic or kinematic viscosity to perform a calculation.

Density: g cm-3

Dynamic viscosity:

N s m-2 = kg m-1 s-1 = Pa s

dyn s cm-2 = g cm-1 s-1 = Poise

cp, centipoise = m Pas

kg m-1 h-1

lb ft-1 s-1 = pdl s ft-2

lb in-1 s-1

Kinematic viscosity:

cm2/s, stoke, square centimeter per second

mm2/s, cstoke, square milimeter per second

m2/h, square meter per hour

in2/s, square inches per second

ft2/s, square foot per second

ft2/h, square foot per hour
